Give a Christmas gift to a family in Malawi

Christmas is just around the corner in Malawi. As in Canada, at our six childcare centres we celebrate Christmas with the children and their families. During the last school week before the Christmas holidays, we gather, and each class recites Psalms, songs or texts. Afterwards, each family receives a Christmas gift that includes food. They can use this for the holidays since the children do not receive a meal at the childcare centre during this time.

A difficult time

A difficult time is dawning for many families in Malawi. Persistent drought and disappointing harvests mean that many families are facing food shortages. From December to April there is often hardly any food and for many it is a matter of survival. Added to this is the rising cost of food, making the price of a simple meal already too high for many families.
